LSU coach Ed Orgeron has spent the past few days out on the road recruiting. On Tuesday, that yielded a significant new offer being dished out.
On a visit to Northside (La.) High School in Lafayette, La., Orgeron offered top Class of 2019 in-state pass-rusher Billy Sonnier.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound weak-side defensive end is a 4-star prospect and the No. 13 overall recruit in Louisiana for the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the No. 22-ranked prospect as his position in the class.
Sonnier boasts offers from TCU, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Penn State, Ole Miss and Kansas, among others, and can now add the Tigers to that list as well. He has visited Baton Rouge a handful of times over the past two years.
Sonnier saw action at both defensive end, a stand-up outside linebacker and at tight end during his junior season. LSU is recruiting the Acadiana-area product on the defensive side of the ball.
LSU’s 2019 recruiting class currently does not hold a commitment from a pass-rusher. The class ranks No. 5 nationally with seven commitments, with four in-state prospects.
