It doesn’t take a football genius to figure out that Jaire Alexander is a good cornerback. But when you dig into the on-off field splits, you might not believe what you see.
Alexander has missed seven games this season due to injury. Five of them were against Power 5 schools, and Louisville went 3-2 in those games.
But the Cardinals have tightened the defensive screws lately, and perhaps it’s no coincidence that Alexander has been healthy. Check this out:
Here's your case for Jaire Alexander: Best CB in the Country…
Lou D in 5 games he started vs P5: 48.8% comp, 5.4 yd/att, 6 TD, 9 INT, 14 sack
Lou D in 5 games he didn't vs. P5: 70.3% comp, 10.8 yd/att, 12 TD, 2 INT, 9 sack

There’s a drastic positive difference in every passing category when Alexander is on the field. Think he could have helped in losses he missed against Wake Forest and Clemson?
Clearly, that answer is yes. Of course, Lamar Jackson is the face of the Louisville program. That comes with being a quarterback and a Heisman winner.
But don’t sleep on Alexander. When healthy, he’s been incredibly productive for the defense.
