Lane Kiffin trolls Tennessee after Mike Gundy turns down Vols (again)

After Mike Gundy spurned Tennessee (again) on Tuesday, Lane Kiffin had the perfect comment on his former employer’s coaching search.

Gundy met with Tennessee on Tuesday but quickly turned down a lucrative offer to become the next head coach for the Volunteers. Kiffin spent one season in Knoxville in 2009 before leaving to take the head coaching job at USC, and he still loves to troll Tennessee on Twitter. So when Gundy became the latest in a series of misses for the Vols during this coaching carousel, Kiffin had to crack a joke.

Gundy will probably hold on to the mullet, as well as his very well-paid position to coach the Cowboys. Former Oklahoma State coach Pat Jones said Gundy also turned down Florida before the Gators settled on Dan Mullen. He also flirted with the Vols in 2012 before opting to stay in Stillwater.

Tennessee’s coaching search continues to run into obstacles. The Vols’ first choice, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, fell through because of overwhelming fan backlash. Duke coach David Cutcliffe turned down the job. Iowa State coach Matt Campbell was a target for Tennessee but  just signed a big extension to stay with the Cyclones.

Meanwhile, Kiffin continues to prove that he is better at Twitter than anyone else, and we should all just accept that.
