Kyle Thomas, a defensive lineman from Chesapeake, Va., committed to play his college football at Rutgers on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect does not have much of a national following yet. Thomas, a rising senior at Oscar Smith High School, is not rated on the 247Sports composite, but Rivals rates him as a 3-star recruit. Rutgers was the only Power 5 team to offer him, though Maryland and Virginia Tech also showed interest. Some of his top offers aside from Rutgers included Appalachian State, Buffalo, East Carolina and James Madison. There appears to be disagreement about where exactly Thomas projects on the line in college. Rivals lists him as a defensive tackle, while 247Sports has him as a strong-side defensive end.

Thomas is Rutgers’ 19th commit in the Class of 2018. Rutgers’ class ranks 51st in the country and 10th in the Big Ten. He is the team’s first defensive line commit in the class after signing four on the line, all at defensive end, in 2017.
