Ohio State plays Wisconsin in this weekend’s Big Ten Championship Game. The Badgers are pretty clearly into the College Football Playoff with a win, but the Buckeyes don’t have such an easy path.

These rankings pit Ohio State vs. Alabama in the eyes of the voters in the scenario that the Buckeyes win on Saturday.
When breaking down the matchup on Tuesday night, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said a Big Ten Championship would tilt the odds in Ohio State’s favor.
“If Ohio State beats Wisconsin, I don’t even know if it has to be emphatic,” he said. “If Ohio State beats Wisconsin, they will have a trump card, based on the committee’s own criteria, of the conference championship. Despite that Iowa loss, the conference championship is one of the things, one of the four, that they weight.”
Here’s College Football Playoff committee chair Kirby Hocutt:
“Obviously it would be an impressive win that Ohio State would add to its body of work,” Hocutt said on a conference call after the rankings relase. It would also be an important designation to have on their resume when comparing them to any comparable team.”
