Kirk Herbstreit still thinks TCU has shot at playoffs

While most have written TCU entirely out of the playoff picture, one of the most prominent college football analysts thinks they still have a chance.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said that he “wouldn’t be shocked” if TCU somehow squeaked back into the playoff conversation during ESPN programming.

Herbstreit’s sentiment is nice, but it’s more than likely out of the question barring some extreme college football happenings. With how the committee has treated TCU in the past, specifically in 2014, it’s very easy to see a one loss Alabama and Georgia, or even a two loss Ohio State get into the picture ahead of the Horned Frogs.

It’s a business, and they’re trying to make money, and those fanbases are bigger. It’s happened before, and there’s no indication that this time is somehow unique or different. Herbstreit is right to boost the Horned Frogs, but he doesn’t make the decisions. The playoff committee does. And we can all plainly see what they think of the Big 12, collectively.
