There’s not much Georgia coach Kirby Smart couldn’t do these days in the Peach State, and that apparently includes playing 18 at Augusta National.
Smart went on WJOX radio in Birmingham on Wednesday morning to discuss a variety of topics before ultimately landing on golf. Smart said that’s his escape from football, when he’s able to get away.
“When I get away from (football), it’s usually golf,” Smart said. “And even then it’s on my mind a lot. But I enjoy the competitive nature of golf. I enjoy the fellowship, you get to play with good friends.”
Smart was then asked about his times playing Augusta National. He said the famed No. 12 is his favorite hole, and that both times his approach ended up in the water.
“I got a little (Jordan) Spieth in me over there,” Smart joked. “He conquered his fears, I couldn’t quite do it … It’s an exciting place to play.”
Smart, who recently received a lengthy contract extension and raise, should have plenty more opportunities to conquer those fears. But don’t expect him to bet on himself too aggressively, even with a healthier bank account.
“I got to keep (the gambling) low so my wife can have all that money,” Smart joked.
