Kirby Smart explains how he is preparing Jake Fromm for No. 10 Auburn

It’s safe to say that Saturday will be the toughest envoirment Jake Fromm will play in during his freshman season.

Despite already owning a road win over the now No. 3 team in the country in Notre Dame, Saturday’s game at No. 10 Auburn will be a tough task for the freshman quarterback, given the raucous atmosphere at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

But when asked about how he is going about preparing Fromm for Saturday’s game, coach Kirby Smart kept it relatively simple.

“Crank up the noise. Crank it up and get him used to it,” Smart said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference call. “We just can’t put so much on his plate to where he can’t communicate.”

Fromm has led Georgia to an unbeaten record in his freshman season and done so by tossing 15 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions while averaging 9.7 yards per attempt. He had his first 300-yard passing game against Missouri, and after a Florida game where he wasn’t asked to do much, Fromm had an efficient outing against South Carolina, completing 16 of his 22 passes and throwing for two touchdowns in a 24-10 win.

Smart was also asked about how they’ve handled adding things for Fromm to handle over the course of the season. And Smart gave a somewhat surprising answer.

“We really haven’t added much. All along we’ve felt like he’s a bright kid,” Smart said. “One place he’s shown the most growth is make decisions. Run pass decisions, to eat the ball and throw it away.”

While Fromm has continued to show progress, he still has a number of critics, including Kirk Herbstreit. It’s also worth noting that Fromm’s two worst performances in terms of completion percentage and yards per attempt have both come on the road( at Notre Dame and at Tennessee).

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn kickoff at 3:30 PM ET on CBS. Georgia has not lost to Auburn since 2013.
