Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant published a Youtube video Tuesday breaking down several top high school basketball prospects including Kentucky shooting guard signee Keldon Johnson and top target Zion Williamson.
Durant saw Johnson in person at Peach Jam in the summer. He had good things to say about the 6-foot-6 small forward from Oak Hill Academy.
“You talk about a scorer, this guy’s it,” Durant said.
Durant praised Johnson’s jumper and said it’s hard to stop him from driving right.
“I think the next step for him though is just figuring out how to play at each level he goes to — figuring out the team game cause he’s got everything you need one-on-one,” Durant said. “That’s just my analysis.”
Johnson is one of three signees in Kentucky’s 2018 class. He’s the 14th-ranked overall prospect in the class and the second-ranked shooting guard, according to 247Sports composite rankings.
Durant, who has an MVP award and NBA scoring titles on his resume, had good things to say about Johnson’s ability to put the ball in the bucket.
“If you need a scorer, man, this guy’s who you need,” Durant said. “And he can score points in bunches. Catch and shoots, drives to the rim, finishing under the basket, off the catch, yeah. Can handle the ball out in pick-and-roll. Once he figures the pick-and-roll out at the size, yeah he can be nice.”
Durant likened Williamson, the No. 2 prospect in the 2018 class, to a “bull in a China shop.”
Williamson, at 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, is three inches shorter but 35 pounds heavier than Durant.
“In transition it’s kinda hard to stop this dude,” Durant said. “It’s like nearly impossible.”
Durant dubbed Williamson a “once-in-a-generation-type athlete.”
