Kentucky opens its home slate against Eastern Kentucky at noon ET Saturday at Kroger Field. More than 10,000 tickets are available for the game.
Approximately 47,600 tickets had been allotted as of Tuesday morning, according to a UK Athletics spokesperson. Capacity at Kroger Field is about 61,000. That leaves approximately 13,400 tickets still to be allotted for the game.
The announced attendance for last season’s home opener against Southern Miss was 57,230.
Kentucky didn’t have a home sellout last season, and season tickets sales haven’t reached the 40,000 goal the athletic department was pushing in its Yahtzee campaign. As of Tuesday morning, 33,974 season tickets had been sold, according to UK. That number is up from 33,533 two weeks ago, but the goal to sell 40,000 season tickets will come up several thousand short.
The last time Kentucky sold 40,000 season tickets was 2013 — coach Mark Stoops’ first season.
The 33,974 season ticket sales this season surpasses the 33,658 season tickets sold last season. The high mark of the decade for Kentucky season ticket sales came in 2009 with 47,376 season tickets sold. That was coach Rich Brooks’ last season in Lexington.
Kentucky beat Southern Miss 24-17 last Saturday to start its 2017 season 1-0. The Wildcats’ upcoming game against Eastern Kentucky will be the first played at newly named Kroger Field.
Saturday is Heroes’ Day at Kroger Field. All active and reserve members of the military along with police, firefighters and first responders are eligible to receive two complimentary tickets to the game by presenting a valid service ID, while supplies last.
Tickets will be available at the Joe Craft Center ticket office beginning Tuesday and throughout game week from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Tickets can also be picked up on game day beginning at 8 a.m. at the Kroger Field ticket office, located between gates 9 and 10.
