Joe Burrow’s injury solves backup QB riddle for now

After months of an intense back-and-forth battle for the backup quarterback position at Ohio State, Buckeyes redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins looks to have won the job by default. An injury to redshirt sophomore Joe Burrow’s throwing hand, suffered in practice on Monday afternoon, will cost Burrow 4-6 weeks and elevate Haskins into the No. 2 role behind J.T. Barrett.

Haskins, who has drawn some comparisons to San Diego Chargers backup Cardale Jones because of his arm strength, may now have a head start on Burrow in the race to become the Buckeyes starter in 2018.

Herbie thinks Ohio State has what it takes

Whether you love him or hate him, you’ve got to respect Kirk Herbstreit as a college football analyst.

On Wednesday, the former Buckeyes captain went on the record in his annual edition of The Herbies and picked his favorites for the 2017 season.

Ohio State is Herbstreit’s pick to win the national championship. He thinks the Buckeyes will get their by beating Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game and eventually besting Alabama for the national crown.

Jerron Cage earns his stripes … by losing his stripe

Ohio State signed two defensive tackles in its Class of 2017 and until Wednesday, a lot of people had forgotten the name Jerron Cage.

The former 4-star prospect from Cincinnati’s Winton Woods High School had his black stripe removed on Wednesday and officially became a full-fledged member of the Buckeyes.

Cage is the 12th member of the 21-member class of 2017 to lose his stripe.
