Jim McElwain says Florida will ‘beat the heck out of Michigan’

Jim Harbaugh just got some bulletin board material for Michigan’s locker room.

Less than two weeks before the Wolverines’ Week 1 showdown with Florida, Gators coach Jim McElwain said something that should catch Michigan’s attention. Speaking at a student pep rally, McElwain told the crowd that his team is going to “beat the heck out of Michigan” when they meet at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 2 in Cowboys Stadium.

“We’re heading to Dallas here in a couple weeks to go beat the heck out of Michigan and then come back to you guys,” McElwain said.

Things didn’t go that way the last time Florida and Michigan squared off. The Wolverines trounced the Gators, 41-7, in the Citrus Bowl at the end of the 2015 season.

Michigan is listed as a four-point favorite in this year’s meeting. Florida will be without seven players, including top wide receiver Antonio Callaway, because of suspensions.
