DT Jerron Cage becomes latest Ohio State freshman to lose black stripe

Ohio State football-Ohio State recruiting-Jerron Cage

Defensive tackle Jerron Cage lost his black stripe Wednesday, becoming the 12th Ohio State freshman to officially become a Buckeye.

Cage arrived in Columbus as a 4-star recruit and the No. 14 defensive tackle in the nation. He is one of six members of his class who went to high school in-state, having played at Winton Woods High School just outside Cincinnati.

Players lose their black stripes when they conduct themselves on and off the field in a way that befits an Ohio State player, in the view of Urban Meyer, who created the tradition early in his coaching career, and the other Buckeye coaches. Here’s a full list of the Ohio State freshmen who have lost their black stripes this summer:

  • RB J.K. Dobbins
  • DB Isaiah Pryor
  • DE Chase Young
  • CB Jeffrey Okudah
  • DT Haskell Garrett
  • LB Pete Werner
  • OT Thayor Munford
  • CB Shaun Wade
  • S Brandon White
  • QB Tate Martell
  • OL Wyatt Davis
  • DT Jerron Cage

Nine Ohio State freshman still have their black stripes.
