Jeff Brohm to Tennessee? Report says Vols still searching as Purdue coach stays on recruiting trail

It’s an anxiety-inducing time if you’re a Purdue football fan who checks Twitter frequently. Jeff Brohm, Purdue’s head football coach as of 1:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, was the subject of a lot of speculation involving the job opening at Tennessee.

It was reported by FootballScoop on Wednesday morning that Tennessee was “centering” its coaching search on Brohm, who has been at Purdue for just one season.

On Wednesday afternoon, the reports went further. Jimmy Hyams, a Knoxville-based sports radio host, said that Tennessee would “soon announce” that the school was hiring Brohm.

With rumors surrounding Brohm, he was still out on the recruiting trail representing Purdue on Wednesday. Brohm was in Hopkinsville, Ky. visiting Purdue commit Cory Trice. And according to Chris Jung of the Kentucky New Era newspaper in Hopkinsville, Brohm told Trice that he was not leaving for Tennessee.

Then, around 1:30 p.m. ET, Rivals reported that Tennessee’s coaching search was not over, calling Hyams’ report “premature.” ESPN’s Chris Low followed that up by saying no deal was in place, but there have been “discussions” between Brohm and the Volunteers.

FOX’s Bruce Feldman also reported that “nothing was imminent” between Brohm and Purdue.

Nothing will be official until Brohm or Tennessee makes an announcement. That could happen Wednesday, or it could drag on until later in the week.

Sorry you have to go through coaching search season twice in two years, Purdue fans.
