Iowa football will be without one of its starting corner backs for its first game against Wyoming on Sept. 2.

Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz announced that sophomore Manny Rugamba will serve a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules. The coach did not confirm what rule or rules Rugamba violated.

Rugamba started three games at corner for the Hawkeyes and appeared in 12 games with 19 total tackles and two interceptions as a true freshman last year. One of those interceptions came in the Hawkeyes’ 14-13 upset victory over Michigan.

Pro Football Focus rated him as the top player at his position in the Big Ten heading into this season as he and others try to fill the shoes of Desmond King.

Ferentz also said redshirt sophomore Michael Ojemudia will fill his spot. Ojemudia saw action in 13 games last season.
