Iowa makes the only football poll that matters; Akrum Wadley impressing as NFL draft prospect

Iowa football is always the main topic in Iowa Breakfast Club, Land of 10’s daily Hawkeyes notebook — but we cover news, notes and analysis across Hawkeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Iowa football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Joining the CFP rankings party

The Ohio State victory secured Iowa access into the most exclusive club in college football: The College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings. The Hawkeyes are No. 20. These are the only rankings that matter because it’s from this ranking that the playoffs will be formed. Also, the Hawkeyes now have a chance to be the spoilers for the playoffs going forward.

A worthwhile investment

The NFL draft is a long way off, but running back Akrum Wadley is already drawing attention. Sport Illustrated’s Albert Breer referred to Wadley as a potential late-round steal in the 2018 draft next spring. With four games left, including a bowl, there is time for Wadley to turn himself into a mid-round selection.

Joining Aaron Rodgers on the sideline

Former Iowa offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga is going to be standing next to his quarterback for a while. The Green Bay Packers tackle suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports. Aaron Rodgers is out with a broken collarbone. At least Rodgers may return this season. Bulaga is out for the year.

A cheese-filled homecoming

Starting quarterback Nate Stanley and reserve running back Toren Young are heading back to their home state of Wisconsin this weekend. Rob Howe of discussed how many tickets each needs this week and why Iowa is recruiting so well in the Badger state.

No coming back

Junior safety Brandon Snyder is set to undergo surgery after tearing his left ACL for the second time in a year. Snyder, who sat out the last three games, is out for the season. Jake Gervase will continue to play in place of Snyder.

Awards week continues

It only seems like every Iowa player has taken home a league-wide or national honor after the Ohio State win. Now, the coaching staff is getting into the mix. The Dodd Trophy named coach Kirk Ferentz its coach of the week on Tuesday.
