Iowa lists freshman Alaric Jackson as No. 1 left tackle as part of depth chart changes ahead of Cy-Hawk battle

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Two days after Iowa’s 24-3 win against Wyoming, the Hawkeyes announced three changes to its depth chart for the upcoming Cy-Hawk series rivalry game against Iowa State.

Left tackle Alaric Jackson, who started against Wyoming in an offensive line shuffle, is listed as the No. 1 left tackle on Iowa’s two-deep. Jackson, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound redshirt freshman, said he found out he would start about eight days before the opener. Senior Boone Myers, who has 17 career starts at left tackle and 22 starts overall, was listed as the No. 2 left tackle. Myers has fought through injuries during training camp and played rotational snaps at left guard on Saturday.

“The first play I was pretty nervous but after that the O-line calmed down and it was fine with me,” said Jackson, who hails from Detroit.

Junior center James Daniels, who was withheld Saturday because of an injury, was listed at center. Keegan Render, a junior who replaced Daniels at center, returns to No. 1 left guard. Ross Reynolds filled in for Render.

“What we didn’t want to do is deal with this issue five or six weeks from now,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said Saturday about Daniels. “It’s not fair to him. He’s too good a kid and too good a player.”

Drake Kulick returns to the No. 1 fullback spot and Brady Ross slides to No. 2. They were flipped last week. Kulick, a senior, suffered a gruesome broken left leg in the 2016 regular-season finale against Nebraska but played several snaps on Saturday.

The other depth-chart change features sophomore Manny Rugamba returning to the starting lineup at right cornerback and Michael Ojemudia shifting back to No. 2. Rugamba was suspended for the opener after breaking team rules.

The Hawkeyes (1-0) travel to Jack Trice Stadium to face the Cyclones (11:01 a.m. CT) on ESPN2. The television crew consists of play-by-play broadcaster Jason Benetti, analyst Kelly Stouffer and sideline reporter Julie Stewart-Binks. Iowa State (1-0) beat Northern Iowa 42-24 on Saturday.
