Iowa’s Akrum Wadley, Sean Welsh accept invites to 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl

The Reese’s Senior Bowl game is played at the end of every season, honoring the best seniors in college football.

This year’s contest will take place on Jan. 27, 2018, in Mobile, Ala. and as of Monday afternoon, the Iowa Hawkeyes will have a couple representatives.

Akrum Wadley and Sean Welsh have both been standouts for the Hawkeyes this season, who finished its 2017 campaign with a 7-5 record in the regular season. The team blew out Nebraska on Black Friday in the team’s final regular season game, 56-14.

In that decisive victory, Wadley — a senior RB for the Hawkeyes — had 19 carries for 159 yards and 3 TD. With his performance, he moved to No. 5 all-time at Iowa in career rushing and is currently No. 3 all-time in rushing TD with 34.

Welsh, who’s a guard for the Hawkeyes, has helped pave the way for Wadley all season long. Welsh has played both guard and center at Iowa and in 2016, was an All-American.

For each of these players attending the Senior Bowl, it will be their final collegiate game of their respective careers. For many, it’s the last time they will be able to show NFL scouts that they belong to be drafted and are worthy of a spot on a team playing at the ultimate level.
