A silver lining
It wasn’t a great weekend for former Iowa linebacker Anthony Hitchens, but it could have been worse. He suffered a right knee injury in the Dallas Cowboys exhibition game on Saturday. The team initially feared a season-ending injury for its starting middle linebacker, but Hitchens learned Sunday he will only miss eight weeks with a tibial plateau fracture. Former Iowa kicker Marshall Koehn hit the 58-yard game winning field goal to lift the Minnesota Vikings to a 32-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers and C.J. Beathard and George Kittle on Sunday night. The 49ers

Mark Emmert of the Des Moines Register picked 10 key players for the future of Iowa football. Who were his future building blocks of the program? Five newcomers made the list.
Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette continued his season-preview series by taking a look at Ohio State. Morehouse tried to find a flaw in the Buckeyes to exploit. There isn’t too much to nitpick with one of the favorites to win the national title this season.
Recruiting story hour
Freshman tackle Mark Kallenberger picked Iowa as his college home. It didn’t stop other programs from trying to pry the offensive lineman away from the Hawkeyes. Kallenberger recapped his recruiting experience for Land of 10 and the stories about Minnesota, Kansas and about Nebraska following his commitment are pretty funny.
