How Alabama’s commitments fared in their high school games: Week 2

Alabama’s commitments took the field for Week 2 of Friday nights under the lights.

The Crimson Tide currently have 10 commitments in their 2018 recruiting class and three in their 2019 group. Members of both classes enjoyed memorable performances this past week.

SEC Country will provide weekly updates on each Alabama commitment, including statistics and highlights.

Here’s what went down Week 2 (Aug. 31-Sept. 2):

2018 commits

Jalyn Armour-Davis, 4-star CB, St. Paul’s Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)

Armour-Davis plays offense, defense and special teams for the Saints. Armour-Davis returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and had 4 receptions for 18 yards on Friday. St. Paul’s Episcopal beat St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis, Miss.), 35-12, and moved to 2-0 on the season.

Jarrett Bell, 3-star C/OG, Norco (Calif.)

Norco lost, 28-21, to Rancho Cucamonga (Calf.), and Bell’s team is now 0-2. Norco threw for 196 yards and rushed for 75.

Slade Bolden, 3-star ATH, West Monroe (La.) 

Bolden had the most impressive performance of the commits this week. Bolden, who plays quarterback, threw for 232 yards and rushed for 121 more while scoring 5 times. He led West Monroe to a 47-32 win over John Ehret (Marrero, La.).

Tommy Brown, 4-star OT, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)

No. 1 Mater Dei picked up a huge win over the weekend, as it beat No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 35-21, as ranked in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25. Bishop Gorman had won 55 straight games entering its matchup against Mater Dei. Brown helped give 2019 5-star quarterback JT Daniels enough time to throw for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Jordan Davis, 4-star Jack, Southwind (Memphis, Tenn.)

Davis didn’t play because of the competition level of Southwind’s opponent. Davis’ team skated by with a 48-7 win over Kingsbury (Memphis, Tenn.) and moved to 2-1 on the season.

Skyler Delong, 3-star P, Nation Ford (Fort Mill, S.C.)

Off week.

Cameron Latu, 4-star Jack, Olympus (Salt Lake City)

Latu picked off a pass in Olympus’ 13-10 loss to Brighton (Salt Lake City).

Quay Walker, 4-star LB, Crisp County (Cordele, Ga.)

Walker had at least 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a 10-yard touchdown in Crisp County’s 27-0 win over Turner County (Ashburn, Ga.). Crisp is now 3-0.

Xavier Williams, 4-star WR, Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.)

Williams had 1 reception for 9 yards in Chaminade-Madonna’s 14-13 win over Miramar (Fla.). He also picked off a pass late in the game to seal the victory, which moved his team to 1-1.

Stephon Wynn Jr., 4-star DE, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)

No stats were available for Wynn, but the Ascenders defeated Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 40-20. IMG Academy has won 30 straight games.

2019 commits

Deyavie Hammond, 4-star OG, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)

The Ascenders defeated Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 40-20.

Pierce Quick, 4-star OT, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.)

Hewitt-Trussville destroyed Callaway (Jackson, Miss.), 65-28, in its season opener. Quick helped block for Bear Bryant’s great-grandson, Paul Tyson, who threw for 285 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Trey Sanders, 4-star RB, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)

Sanders was a star for IMG Academy as he broke off touchdown runs of 65 and 75 yards to put the game away for the Ascenders.
