Highly ranked RB Ricky Slade reaffirms Penn State commitment

Penn State lost another assistant on Thursday afternoon as it was reported Nittany Lions running backs coach/special teams coordinator Charles Huff was following Joe Moorhead to Mississippi State. Huff leaves another hole on Penn State’s staff, and he was one of the program’s top recruiters.

But the absence of Huff and Moorhead — who took the Mississippi State job on Tuesday — is not going to have an impact on one of Penn State’s top recruits in the 2018 class. Running back Ricky Slade tweeted that he was staying 100 percent committed to the Nittany Lions on Thursday afternoon.

Slade is ranked as the No. 2 all-purpose back in his class and the best 2018 recruit from Virginia in the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s the second-highest ranked commit in Penn State’s 2018 class, behind 5-star wide receiver Justin Shorter. Slade is keeping his faith in Penn State’s program as James Franklin figures out who will be the Nittany Lions’ offensive coordinator and running backs coach in 2018.

Slade had 2,785 yards and 40 touchdowns during his senior season at C.D. Hylton (Va.) High School. Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue broke down how Slade can help Penn State move on from Saquon Barkley in the future.
