Greg McElroy has high praise for Mississippi State before the Bulldogs’ big matchup against Alabama on Saturday.
Speaking on SEC Network, the analyst and former Alabama quarterback gave a strong take about why Mississippi State is the most difficult opponent the Crimson Tide will have faced so far this season. Even with Alabama having previous games against Florida State and LSU, McElroy sees Mississippi State holding the potential to give the Crimson Tide bigger fits on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.
Here’s what he said on the network:
“This is the toughest game for ‘Bama this year, so far. I know Florida State was good [in] Week 1, highly ranked. That team clearly wasn’t as good as we thought in the preseason. LSU was good. They had a couple other matchups that were difficult. But this is by far the most difficult matchup for Alabama at this point in the season.”
McElroy went on to explain that Alabama has struggled at times throughout the past decade against dynamic, dual-threat quarterbacks. He mentioned that Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has the talent to give a banged-up Crimson Tide defense a hard time.
This will be a fun matchup. Can the Bulldogs spring the upset? Alabama looked vulnerable at times against LSU last Saturday in Tuscaloosa. And remember, anything is possible.
The Bulldogs will need a near-perfect effort, but it’s possible that the game could go deep into the fourth quarter.
