To mix things up, I thought I’d do a look-ahead to Georgia State’s August camp in a different format, A-to-Z:

I’ll continue to post one letter a day on the blog for the next 26 days:

Today is …

N is for nutrition

This was an area that coach Trent Miles and Georgia State’s sports administration have worked to improve for the team since he took over the program in Dec. 2012.

Players typically lose weight during the season because of the calories burned during practice and the lack of time they have between class, practices, etc. to ingest eat enough to keep their weight on.

The combination can see players wear down in the last third of the season, a problem that has contributed to the team’s 1-23 record the past two season.

So, cafeteria hours have been changed (done because of a nearby dorm, but which helps the football team) and practice hours have been changed. The combination has allowed the players the opportunity to eat three healthy meals a day so that they can maintain their weight, keep their strength and improve their chances at victory.

Previously, the players didn’t have an opportunity to eat early in the morning before practices or classes. And the cafeterias weren’t open late enough for the players to grab a bite either after late classes or practices.
