ATHENS — Freshman outside linebacker Robert Beal and junior safety Rashad Roundtree were not seen at Georgia’s football practice on Wednesday, at least during the media viewing period.
There was no immediate word of any reason they were absent. Roundtree was also not seen at Tuesday’s practice.
Beal is a highly-touted freshman who joined the team a few days into preseason practice, after qualifying academically. Roundtree, a reserve the past two seasons, has moved between safety and inside linebacker, and had been back with the defensive backs this preseason.
Head coach Kirby Smart is scheduled to meet with the media after practice.
Some other notes and observations:
- It remains status quo on the offensive line, where the first team is the same as it’s been since the beginning of last week: LT Isaiah Wynn, LG Pat Allen, C Lamont Gaillard, RG Solomon Kindley, RT Andrew Thomas. The second team is also the same as it’s been this week: LT Isaiah Wilson, LG Justin Shaffer, C Dyshon Sims (with Sean Fogarty rotating in), RG Kendall Baker, RT Ben Cleveland.
- Freshman Deangelo Gibbs was with the cornerbacks, as was senior Aaron Davis. The defense hasn’t gone into its alignment during the media viewing periods this week, so it’s not been apparent yet if the lineup has changed. Gibbs has been competing for the vacant starting spot at star, but sophomore J.R. Reed was the first-teamer at star during Saturday’s scrimmage.
- Freshman receiver J.J. Holloman, who has dealt with hamstring problems this preseason, appeared to still be limited.
- Receivers coach James Coley continues to be very vocal with his unit. When freshman Mecole Hardman let up after he caught a slant pass over the middle, Coley expressed displeasure: “I asked you to sprint!” But Coley was complimentary of junior Jayson Stanley, who made a nice reaching catch near the sideline.
