Curtis Dunlap visits Arkansas

The Gators are set to sign their first player from IMG Academy in the Class of 2018, but they have a fight on their hands to make it happen.

Florida landed a commitment on July 24 from Curtis Dunlap, a 4-star offensive guard from the private boarding school and training facility in Bradenton, Fla.

UF parted ways with third-year coach Jim McElwain late last month, but Dunlap is sticking with his pledge for now. He wants to see who Florida hires and hopes Gators offensive line coach Brad Davis is retained.

While that process plays out, Dunlap will officially visit a few schools and check out his other options. He took his first trip to Arkansas last weekend.

“It was amazing,” Dunlap told Arkansas Online. “… It showed me like there’s other places where I can go that can give me the same home feeling. It doesn’t have to be right at the back door.”

Dunlap was planning to sign with Florida in December and enroll early, but those plans are now on hold until the coaching situation at Florida is resolved.

The Under Armour All-American holds more than 40 offers and is the nation’s No. 6 player at his position, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Dunlap is still considering three programs in addition to Florida.

“It’s tough process. I’m trying to figure it out right now,” Dunlap said. “Arkansas, Mississippi State and Oregon are the other main ones I’m looking at right now.”

Alabama hosts 2 UF commits

Dunlap wasn’t the only Florida pledge who visited another school last weekend.

Top-100 wide receiver Jacob Copeland and 2019 defensive lineman Jaquaze Sorrells both attended the Alabama-LSU game.

It was Copeland’s third trip to Tuscaloosa this fall and the Crimson Tide are one of several teams trying to flip the Under Armour All-American, who plans to take official visits after his senior season.

Sorrells visited Alabama for the first time Saturday and plans to make a return trip. The 4-star DL is schedule to visit Clemson this weekend and Michigan on Nov. 25.
