Responding to David Reese’s comments

It has been two days since sophomore linebacker David Reese made his postgame remarks about the Gators’ lack of effort against Missouri. And with two days to reflect, both interim coach Randy Shannon and his teammates endorsed Reese’s sentiments.

A synopsis from Shannon:

“By him making those comments I think that this team has really kind of looked in the mirror and said, ‘OK, Reese called it out and this is what we believe in. This is what Reese see[s] and he’s challenging everybody.’ It wasn’t a callout; it wasn’t just doubting anybody. It was just he’s challenging everybody to be all in like he is. I think that’s the one thing that we want for this university and anybody a part of this university whose a part of the Gator brand.”

Shannon announced Monday that graduate transfer Malik Zaire will start his second straight game on Saturday against South Carolina. Shannon said that Zaire “didn’t do anything to hurt us” in the game against Missouri. Regardless of the decision, Shannon’s limited to just Zaire and Feleipe Franks in the quarterback room with both Kyle Trask and Jake Allen dealing with injuries.

Florida soccer a top 16 seed

The Gators will host at least one soccer match for the NCAA Tournament. Florida earned a No. 3 regional seed in the tournament and will host South Alabama on Friday at 6 p.m. Should Florida advance, it would host the second and third rounds of the tournament next weekend only if No. 2 regional seed UCF loses its first-round contest.
