Gary Patterson knows what’s at stake in the Big 12 Championship. He knows his team’s chances at making the College Football Playoff all but died in Norman at the hands of Baker Mayfield and thousands of raucous Oklahomans. At the end of the day, though, it’s about doing what’s best for his team.
Patterson on the best result for the #Big12 conference: "Probably for Oklahoma to win — I'm a business guy too, but I also have an obligation to get TCU to win this game."

According to Die Hards’ Dean Straka, Patterson said that the best result for the Big 12 is “Probably for Oklahoma to win … but I also have an obligation to get TCU to win this game.”
Yes, if TCU wins, the Big 12 will be shuttered out of the playoff, and the decision to add a conference title game will look irreparably stupid. It might have some consequences down the line, too, especially if the Big 12 not getting into the playoff is a catalyst for Texas, Oklahoma, and their trainloads full of money to leave the conference.
For Patterson, though, it’s about winning, and if it ruins the day of the conference, well, we’ll figure that out when we get there.
