Four-star LB Channing Tindall looks forward to U.S. Army Bowl

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Channing Tindall has several family members who served in the military, so that was a “major factor” in his decision to play in the U.S. Army Bowl.

Tindall, who was also invited to play in the Under Armour All-American Game, told reporters on Thursday that his biological father was a captain in the Coast Guard and his grandparents served in various capacities during the Vietnam War.

“Because, for me, you can say thank you for serving us, but this is like taking an extra step forward, showing I actually care, to thank them for doing everything,” Tindall said.

The 4-star linebacker was presented with his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey during a ceremony on Thursday afternoon at Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.).

“I felt like superman when I put on this jersey,” he said. “It’s time just to ball out in San Antonio and show them what South Carolina boys can do.”

In the meantime, Tindall’s focus is on Friday night’s 5A playoff game against Conway, the same team that knocked out Spring Valley in the second-round of the playoffs last season.

“We know what we have to do, so if we just keep pushing forward,” Tindall said. “We’ve got Conway, next we’ve got Fort Dorchester, then we’ve got Dutch Fork.

“We’re really trying to get to Dutch Fork, because they beat us the first time and we’ve got to get our revenge. But we’re going to take it one step at a time – Conway, and here we come.”

It won’t be a walk when the 10-1 Vikings play on the road against the 11-1 Tigers.

“They’re a good team,” Tindall said. “They do a lot of read-options and what not, so the read-option, we’re going to have to stay down and not fall for the little fakes and what not, so if we do that, I feel confident that we’ll be able to win the game.”
