Let’s just say former Tennessee QB Erik Ainge is just as frustrated as the rest of the fans in Rocky Top at how the coaching search is going.
Not only did Ainge make it clear that he doesn’t want Lane Kiffin back in Knoxville, saying that straight to the Florida Atlantic coach himself, he also doesn’t want N.C. State coach Dave Doeren, who’s rumored to be in consideration for the head coaching vacancy.
“I don’t want Dave Doeren to be our coach. I don’t,” Ainge said on The Opening Drive on Thursday morning.

Before that, Ainge spoke candidly about Kiffin after sending him direct messages on Twitter to let him know that he didn’t want him to have a second stint as Tennessee’s coach. He took a screenshot of the conversation and posted that publicly on Twitter.
“I don’t like the thought that a lot of our fans don’t know a lot of things about him,” Ainge said. “… You guys also shouldn’t be surprised that now that he’s gone, even though [Nick] Saban resurrected his career, that he trolls Saban. He’s had less than awesome things to say about the guy that resurrected his career to give him a chance to be at FAU.”
