Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik gave a strong defense for Greg Schiano after the reported deal between the coach and Tennessee fell through.
Dominik, who was the Bucs’ general manager from 2009 to 2013, used Twitter on Sunday to write that he and his management team “spent hours & hours interviewing & background checks on Greg Schiano.” He added that Schiano is ‘honest, awesome father/husband, & an excellent football coach.” Schiano went 11-21 as Tampa Bay’s coach during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
We spent hours & hours interviewing & background checks on Greg Schiano. Yes we didn’t win. Fact-he’s honest, awesome father/husband, & an excellent football coach. This shouldn’t be whether YOU think you like him or not, you don’t even know him. #Meyer #Belichick ask them.

It was a wild Sunday for Tennessee, with fans voicing their displeasure about Schiano’s reported hire online and in the streets. Some protested Schiano’s alleged connection to the Jerry Sandusky situation while Schiano was an assistant at Penn State. (Schiano has denied knowing about Sandusky’s actions.)
No matter what you think of Schiano, Dominik’s words hold weight, given his experience with Schiano and the background work he was involved with when hiring the coach at Tampa Bay.
