Former FSU QB warns Jimbo Fisher to not leave for ‘worse gig’ at Texas A&M

The rumors are swirling about Jimbo Fisher potentially leaving Florida State to become the next head coach at Texas A&M.

Yet, former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell thinks Fisher would be better served to stay put in Tallahassee.

Texas A&M fired coach Kevin Sumlin on Sunday afternoon. Reports are indicating that Texas A&M is nearing a deal with the Florida State Seminoles coach.

Meanwhile, Fisher is declining comment on the situation.

“I never comment on jobs,” Fisher said on the Jeff Cameron Show on Monday morning.

That doesn’t mean that everyone else isn’t speculating though.

On Monday morning, ESPN personalities Booger McFarland and Paul Finebaum both projected Fisher to take the job with the Aggies.

Kanell, who played at FSU from 1992-95, countered that Fisher would be making a big mistake by bolting for Texas A&M and that the program wouldn’t suffer even if he left.

The public opinion on the Fisher decision has been divided but Kanell makes a valid point that the tradition of excellence at Florida State won’t be ruined regardless.

During his time at FSU, Fisher posted an 83-23 record and captured the 2013 national championship.
