Richard Jibunor update
The Gators became one of the top teams for 4-star linebacker Richard Jibunor in September after he attended the Florida-Tennessee game.
It was his first visit to UF and the trip caused him to delay his decision. Jim McElwain’s departure last month threw another wrench into his recruitment.
“After the stuff that happened to Florida’s coach, man, I don’t know. I was surprised really. I was really surprised about it,” Jibunor told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk. “Here’s how I look at it, man. If I’m a fan, and I see the problems that team is facing, and I see all the players the coach has lost [to injuries and suspensions], I should not expect winning every game.”
Auburn and Tennessee are the other finalists for Jibunor, and their head coaches have also been under fire this year. The Vols are expected to can Butch Jones, while Auburn’s success this season has turned down the heat on Gus Malzahn.
“People are always talking about Butch Jones and talking about Gus Malzahn on the hot seat,” Jibunor said. “So the decision, it’s about the school. Coach plays a big factor, but it’s really about the school you want to play for and want to represent. Are you ready to put in the work? Most teams are doing good, but no one is doing well all the time.”
The 6-foot-3, 206-pounder prospect from Athens, Ga., is ranked the nation’s No. 10 athlete and No. 229 overall prospect by 247Sports. He plans to make his decision at the end of this month and will visit Auburn twice before he commits — Saturday for the Georgia game and Nov. 25 for the Iron Bowl against Alabama.
“I’m looking toward end of November,” Jibunor said. “I just want confirmation. My heart is a lot on one side. Sometimes I have doubts. Sometimes I don’t have doubts. I want to get to that point where I’m ready and confident enough to do it. I think it’s just a matter of time.”
Top 3 for Channing Tindall
Despite McElwain’s exit, the Gators are still in the mix for the No. 1 outside linebacker in the country.
Channing Tindall, who is also ranked the nation’s No. 24 overall recruit by 247Sports, told SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan that Florida is one of his top 3 schools.
“The three main colleges I’m looking at are South Carolina, Georgia and Florida,” Tindall said Thursday. “I can tell you that I’m going to make my decision by the end of the year, but nothing more than that.”
Tindall has attended multiple Georgia and South Carolina games this season, but last visited Florida for Friday Nights. He plans to check out Auburn or Clemson this weekend, but UGA and USC have separated themselves from UF and other contenders.
Tindall said he won’t utilize the early signed period and will put pen to paper on National Signing Day. When pressed for a leader, Tindall wouldn’t give any hints.
“I’m pretty sure that I am firm with those three schools,” Tindall said. “You are just going to have to wake and see what happens.”
