Florida State earns commitment from 4-star California prospect

The Florida State offense is getting a major addition as the Seminoles are landing a talented tight end from the Class of 2018.

4-star California prospect Camren McDonald announced in a video on Saturday that he’s committing to Florida State.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound McDonald told 247Sports why he wanted to be a Seminole. A large part of it is the addition of Willie Taggart and the opportunity for immediate playing time.

“There are a lot of things I liked about Florida State,” McDonald said. “First and foremost is the opportunity to play early. They don’t have a lot of depth at tight end at all and with them switching to a spread type offense, I think I have a great chance to come and play right away.

“It’s a very prestigious program with a lot of tradition and I like the coaching staff a lot. I like coach (Willie) Taggart (head coach) and coach Telly Lockette (TE coach) and I think I can do big things there.”

McDonald is the No. 15 tight end overall and No. 40 from California in the Class of 2018.

McDonald was previously committed to USC but de-commited in November. Now he’s thrilled to be heading to the Sunshine State.

“Florida State is a big time school and I’m really excited about my decision,” McDonald said to 247Sports. “There was a time when I didn’t think I wanted to leave home but that’s not an issue at all any more and I can’t wait to get out there and make things happen.”
