Florida recruiting: Latest updates on the Gators’ 2018 class

The Florida Gators finished this summer with a bang on the recruiting trail, becoming the hottest team in the country for the final two weeks of July.

UF has landed 12 total commits in the last two weeks and now has a top-10 class in the 2018 cycle. With the targets remaining on the board, this year could be Jim McElwain’s best class yet.

Where Florida’s class ranks

Florida’s 2018 class is ranked  No. 7 nationally and  No. 2 in the SEC. Eight of the Gators’ 17 commits are 4-star recruits or higher. UF has the SEC’s second-highest average star rating (89.88) behind Alabama (91.07).

Latest news

For the third consecutive week, Florida landed a commitment last Sunday with the the huge addition 4-star running back  Dameon Pierce. He visited UF twice in late July and surprisingly pulled the trigger.

He was expected to take his time with the recruiting process and had a top 5 of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia. Pierce’s pledge moved the Gators past LSU in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
