2019 commit likes Dan Mullen
Several Florida commits and targets are on board with the hiring of Dan Mullen, including John Dunmore.
The 4-star wide receiver from Delray Beach, Fla., joined the Gators’ 2019 class back in April and did not waver on that decision during the coaching search.
Dunmore had faith it would work out in his favor.
“I’m letting God lead me on the right path and I’m just praying every night he does,” he told SEC Country after attending the Florida-Florida State game.
As it turns out, Dunmore’s prayers were answered. His top candidates for the Florida job were Mullen and UCF’s Scott Frost, so he was a happy camper Sunday.
“I’m still committed,” Dunmore said. “Dan Mullen a great coach. I see what he did with the Mississippi State program.”
Mullen finished with a 69-46 record at MSU and had a top-50 offense nationally in each of the last five seasons, including the No. 8 unit in 2014.
Dunmore received an offer from the Bulldogs this year and had been talking to the staff about coming up for visit prior to Mullen’s hiring.
He enjoyed his latest Florida trip and brought a couple members with him to the game Saturday.
“It was a great visit,” Dunmore said. “My main focus was bringing my family up here. It was my mom and my brother’s first Florida game, so I just wanted them to get the atmosphere and feeling. They loved it.”
Despite his commitment to Florida, Dunmore has an affinity for the Seminoles as well because of his childhood upbringing.
“Florida State was actually my dream school. Me and my family grew up watching Florida State,” Dunmore said. “My mom is a Gators fan, so she loved being at the game — win or lose.”
Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Ohio State and Wisconsin continue to contact Dunmore and he plans to check out some of those schools next year. But at this time, Dunmore is set on Florida and felt that way even before Mullen got the job.
“We’re not committed to the coach, we’re committed to the school. We have a group chat and we communicate every day,” Dunmore said of Florida’s 2019 class. “We’re all brothers. I feel like 2019 is going to be the class to change Florida around, for sure.”
