The Florida men’s basketball team will open SEC play against a team that beat the Gators three times and close conference play with the top team in the league.
The SEC released its conference schedule for the 2017-18 men’s basketball season on Thursday afternoon, and the Gators’ 18-game slate could prove to be a challenge for coach Mike White as he enters his third season.
Florida opens conference play against Vanderbilt on Dec. 30 and will face the Commodores in Nashville on Feb. 17. The Gators also have home-and-home series against Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina. The home game against Kentucky is Florida’s regular-season finale on March 3, and will serve as the team’s senior day.
Florida home-only matchups come against Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, and it will face Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M.
Of its 18 games, six are against teams currently in Joe Lundardi’s early bracketology for the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
The Gators finished second in the SEC with a 14-4 conference record and went on to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
