Florida QB Luke Del Rio once again calls out fans: ‘Be better Gator Nation’

As it was revealed this week, Florida QB Feleipe Franks has received some nasty comments from fans on his Instagram account, and fellow Gators QB Luke Del Rio came to his defense.

On Monday, Yahoo’s Pat Forde brought the hateful language to light in a section called “Fans: Try to locate your humanity.” He posted some of the messages left for Franks, calling them “disgusting.”

On Tuesday night, Del Rio had this to say to Florida fans on Twitter.

Del Rio hasn’t been shy to speak out against the orange and blue faithful.

In August, Del Rio was clearly frustrated with those in Gainesville after the redshirt junior was asked about his arm strength. He responded by saying Florida fans were “ridiculous” to say he had a “noodle” arm and that they must “have the memory of a goldfish, I guess.”

Del Rio also took exception to the reaction from fans after Florida’s 54-16 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game last season, posting a tweet that said: In all kinds of “fair” weather.

However, there’s no doubt the toxic posts directed at Franks were over the top, even in relation to the usual garbage that’s freely spewed by Internet trolls these days.

After a 3-1 start, Florida has lost four straight and must now win each of its last three games against South Carolina, UAB and Florida State to avoid missing a bowl game for just the second time since 1991.
