Florida’s Jim McElwain on Jim Harbaugh: ‘He obviously felt he needed to do some things to be relevant’

The war of words (and rosters) between Florida and Michigan took another interesting turn Monday.

As the Gators prepare to face the Wolverines in their season opener on Saturday in Cowboys Stadium, Florida coach Jim McElwain was asked about some of the off-field activities Jim Harbaugh has done since he got to Michigan 2.5 years ago. McElwain says he would’ve taken a different approach than Harbaugh, who has made countless headlines since returning to Ann Arbor.

“He obviously felt he needed to do some things to be relevant and that’s his choice,” McElwain told reporters, according to Nick De la Torre of Gator Country. “I probably wouldn’t have done it.”

Las week, McElwain told students at a pep rally that Florida would “beat the heck” out of Michigan. The Florida coach also is not a fan of Michigan’s secretive roster practices.

Florida-Michigan was alreadymc one of the most-anticipated matchups of Week 1, and the intrigue seems to be growing by the day.
