More preseason team, player rankings released
The preseason college football rankings are continuing to roll out as the regular season nears. On Wednesday, Sports Illustrated released its list and gave an explanation of each team’s path to the College Football Playoff. The Gators come in at No. 18. Here’s what their path to the playoff looks like:
“The Gators will be underdogs in most of their big games, but a home tilt against LSU (Oct. 7), a match with Michigan (Sept. 2) in Texas and a visit from Florida State (Nov. 25) give the Gators a path. A few upsets, an SEC East title and a conference crown would put them in playoff contention.”
CBS Sports on Wednesday revealed its top 25 SEC players likely to make an impact this season. Two Gators made the list in junior defensive lineman CeCe Jefferson (No. 25) and junior wide receiver Antonio Callaway (No. 14).

Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples did a different form of college football ranking on SI’s new food vertical, SI Eats. On Wednesday, he ranked the top 25 college town meals he’s had during his travels across the country. At No. 6, Staples listed the deep dish pizza at Satchel’s in Gainesville. His explanation:
“If you want one of these thick, loaded monsters for dinner, call ahead and make sure they still have shells. [They only make a limited number each day.] This isn’t Chicago-style deep dish. It looks like New York-style pizza pumped full of butter steroids, and the two-inch-thick bread provides the ideal foil for Satchel’s spicy tomato sauce. Order whatever toppings you like, but make sure your combo includes meatballs. Also, your pie will take 45-60 minutes to cook. So, order a salad for the table and whet your appetite with some of the world’s most addictive vinaigrette.”

The Tim Tebow experiment
The Tim Tebow baseball show made its way to Tampa this week, and the Tampa Bay Times’ Ryan Romano wrote about the Tebow experiment. The main question that Romano pondered: Can Tebow play? An excerpt of Romano’s piece, in which he talks with multiple minor league baseball scouts, is below:
“The answer is complicated. On offense, his cold spells have kept him low in the batting order. On defense, his inexperience shows. He’s playing with and against guys who were middle schoolers when he won the Heisman Trophy 10 years ago this season. And with his 30th birthday coming next week, he’ll need to get better fast.”
