The Coaches’ Preseason All-SEC football team was unveiled Wednesday afternoon, and 11 Florida players made the three-deep team with one player earning double recognition.
Headlining the nominated Gators are offensive lineman Martez Ivey and cornerback Duke Dawson, both of whom were named to the first team.
In addition, wide receiver Callaway, defensive linemen CeCe Jefferson and Jabari Zuniga, and punter Johnny Townsend were selected to the second team. Tight end DeAndre Goolsby, offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor, wide receiver Brandon Powell (listed as an All-Purpose back), defensive back Chauncey Gardner and kicker Eddy Pineiro were third-team selections. Callaway, who is one of seven Florida players suspended for the season opener, also made a second appearance as the third-team return specialists.
Florida’s 12 overall preseason selections ranked second in the league behind Alabama, which had 15. The Gators were also one of six teams with multiple first-team selections.
In July, the media tabbed nine Florida players to their preseason All-SEC team. Dawson and Ivey were first-team selections in that poll, as well.
The Gators, ranked No. 17 in the preseason AP poll, are looking to make their third straight appearance in the SEC Championship Game under coach Jim McElwain. Florida opens its season against No. 11 Michigan on Sept. 2 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
