The Florida Gators will be paying Jim McElwain quite a lot of money over the next couple years.
And Jim McElwain will not be coaching the Gators at all during that time.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Florida athletic department announced the official terms of the buyout with former head football coach Jim McElwain.

UAA announces Jim McElwain will receive a buyout of $7.5 million, beginning with a $3.75 million payment Dec. 1.

That’s not quite the $10 million that former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin will receive in total in the next 60 days, but it’s still a hefty payday for McElwain.
And this buyout just represents another check the Gators will have to dish out to a coach who is not theirs.
