Fan Sound Off: Kentucky earns revenge on Southern Mississippi

Kentucky learned just how sweet revenge can be, downing Southern Mississippi in Week 1 by a 24-17 margin.

The Eagles infamously doled the Wildcats a 44-35 loss in the 2016 season opener. Coach Mark Stoops’ squad wasn’t about to give them the satisfaction once again, this time in Hattiesburg.

On Saturday, C.J. Conrad hauled in 97 of quarterback Stephen Johnson’s 176 passing yards and the Wildcats’ lone receiving touchdown.

While the offense did just enough to get past Southern Mississippi, the general consensus among fans is that the defense might have to carry the Wildcats this season. While Kentucky surrendered 364 total yards, only 55 of those yards came on the ground.

Cliff McClendon: Cats offense pretty unimpressive with underwhelming ground game plus Johnson still can’t complete basic passes over the middle! SMU had some costly penalties at end of game or they could have tied game and won in OT as they had all the momentum late! Couple of bright spots as we now have a punter in Panton and special teams played well! Defense better than last year although lot of missed tackles!

TeresaJeff Bush: A win on the 1st game and it being away should give them a confidence boost! Way to go CATS !! Keep improving and keep up the good work!!

Joshua Engle: They did really good against a pesky defense from southern miss.

Ralph Stasiak:  It was great, but we still need more offense in the second half to help our defense still off the field!!!

Kyle Hendrick Caldwell: But win is a win and payback.

James Robert Willis: Better start than last season.

Gary York: We need a quarterback.

Bruce Blansett: Defense looks pretty good. Offense needs a lot of work. Especially OL.

William Gilbert: On the road, I will take it. Clean it up Cats and keep on winning.  #gobigblue
