South Carolina put the SEC East on notice by hanging on for a 35-28 season-opening win against North Carolina State on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Jake Bentley continued his momentum from last season by throwing for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Deebo Samuel was the star of the show, however. The junior returned the opening kick 97 yards for a touchdown and added a pair of receiving scores.
Gamecocks nation was pleased with the results, but the consensus is that improvements can be made.

Jermaine Miller: The team looked damn good. Defense gave up majority of those 400 yds in first half (350). They readjusted, settled and controlled 2nd half. Offense looked superb. Just disappointed with last 5 possessions, no points… First game, 35 pts and we r only beginning, proud to be a GAMECOCK….
Wayne Faile: Great win! But defense still needs work gave up to many yards in the air!
Celeste Sabin: I want to see our defense when we’re not playing a team of mostly seniors. Offense was outstanding, defense not so much, but enough to get that W.
Kevin N Dawn Pridmore: We need to take a hard look at our front four on D and our secondary. We gave us 400+ yards through the air.
Michael Bray: Bentley is suffering for Sophomoreitis…commonly known as “The Know It All” attitude…he played good for 3 quarters but forgot there are 4 QUARTERS in a game! GO GAMECOCKS!!!!
