TCU will be without starting free safety Nick Orr for the first half of the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma this week, and his brothers aren’t happy about that at all.

The Big 12 suspended Orr after he threw punches during the fight between Baylor and TCU players on Friday. His brothers, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zachary Orr and DeSoto (Texas) assistant coach Terrance Orr, defended him on Twitter on Sunday.

Both of Orr’s brothers said he was defending himself after being pushed to the ground and kicked during the scrum with Baylor players. Both brothers criticized the Big 12 for how it handled the situation, comparing it to the conference only issuing a written reprimand for Baker Mayfield’s antics in Week 12.

The broadcast on FOX showed Orr (No. 18) running into the fray before getting pushed to the ground. As Orr tries to get up from under a Baylor player, running back JaMycal Hasty (No. 33) appears to kick Orr while he’s on the ground, and Baylor tight end Jayson Clements (No. 87) appears to hit Orr in the head.

Once Orr gets upright, he can be seen punching at Baylor players while TCU linebacker Ty Summers (No. 42) and safety Ridwan Issahaku (No. 31) try to hold him back.

TCU coach Gary Patterson also voiced his displeasure with the conference’s ruling. Patterson said he argued for Orr to only receive a one-quarter suspension against the Sooners.

“I am disappointed for Orr because he’s a senior and he’s not going to be able to play the whole Big 12 title game,” Patterson told the Star-Telegram’s Mac Engel on Sunday. “It’s not like he came off the bench and cold-cocked a guy.”

Hasty will be suspended for the first half of Baylor’s Big 12 opener against Kansas next season. Baylor defensive lineman D.J. Artis will serve a full-game suspension against Kansas in 2018 for his actions during the fight.

TCU and Oklahoma will kick off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be televised on FOX.
