The debates on who belongs in the College Football Playoff between Alabama and Ohio State will rage on at least until Sunday, and possibly longer, after the four teams are announced.
While there are arguments on both sides – Alabama isn’t even playing in its conference championship, Ohio State has one more loss than the Crimson Tide –, ESPN radio host Ryen Russillo has one reason why Nick Saban’s team should be in and not the Buckeyes.
“Say what you want about Alabama’s resume or schedule…but there’s no world where I see Alabama going into Kinnick [Stadium] and giving up 55 to Iowa,” Russillo said on Monday.
That is the biggest knock against Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes at this moment. The Hawkeyes, who finished 7-5 on the regular season, thoroughly beat down Ohio State in Kinnick Stadium on Nov. 4 to a score of 55-24.
Alabama’s one loss this season came on Saturday on the road at No. 6 Auburn, which is a much better defeat to take than the one Ohio State has at Iowa. The Buckeyes were also beaten by No. 2 Oklahoma 31-16 in Week 2 in Columbus.
The argument could be moot by the time Saturday night rolls around, though. Ohio State faces an undefeated Wisconsin team in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis, while the Crimson Tide need some things to fall their way to have a chance at making the playoff.
