After Sunday night’s embarrassing choke job against UCLA, one of the regents of Texas A&M, Tony Buzbee, called for head coach Kevin Sumlin to lose his job running the Aggies program. As did many others, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit saw those comments. But unlike most, Herbie’s main takeaway concerned not Sumlin’s job performance, but Buzbee himself:

Herbstreit may have a point here, considering Buzbee’s formal ties to the university. And yet, it’s hard to disagree with Buzbee’s initial assessment; after last night’s debacle, it’s difficult to argue that Sumlin — who came into this season on the hot seat — deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point. Regardless, it’s always notable when someone like Herbstreit weighs in a topic as controversial as this one.
