Clemson held on to the No. 4 spot in the second College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night. And there’s an argument to be made that No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 6 TCU closed in on the final spot this week, as the Tigers just held on to beat N.C. State, 38-31.
But that’s not the case in the mind of ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit. The long time analyst called Clemson the best team in the country on the ESPN College Football Playoff reveal show on Tuesday.
“I think the best team, in my mind, if everybody is healthy, is Clemson. I think Clemson, if Kelly Bryant’s ankle is healthy, and it appears that it is. I know that they’re defense has given up some points here lately. It’s just my opinion that when the dust settles, I think Clemson’s going to potentially be the best team again this year in the entire country.”
ESPN studio analyst Rece Davis agreed, calling Clemson the most complete team in the nation.
Clemson has four wins against opponents that were ranked inside the Top 15 at the time that the game occurred. Based on the current College Football Playoff rankings, the Tigers have knocked out three Top 25 teams.
