QB struggles doomed Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain

The Florida Gators have now gone through two coaches in Will Muschamp and Jim McElwain in less than seven years. While the reasons for their departures were not exactly the same, a common demise for them was the struggle on the quarterback recruiting front. Our Zach Abolverdi explains:

“The bottom line is that Muschamp and McElwain missed on their first QB signees: Jeff Driskel and Feleipe Franks. They hitched their wagons to those two quarterbacks in the recruiting process, and it’s hard to fault them.

Driskel was a 5-star recruit on ESPN and the No. 1 QB in the country, while Franks was ranked the No. 5 QB and No. 57 nationally in the 247Sports composite. But it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.”
