Former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops seems to be enjoying retirement.
He’s playing golf, perfecting his homemade pizza recipe and no longer carrying the weight of one of college football’s most successful programs on his shoulders, according to George Stoia of OUDaily.com.
Of course, some things haven’t changed since Stoops retired as the Sooners head football coach in June. He’s still being brought up as a possible candidate for head coaching vacancies.
He might not be the Oklahoma head coach anymore, but he’s still very much attached to the program.
Stoia spoke with one of Stoops’ closest friends and Oklahoma’s dean of students, Clarke Stroud, who said he doesn’t see Stoops putting retirement on pause to take on a new coaching job.
“I don’t see him going anywhere,” Stroud told Stoia. “He’s got his house here. This is where he’s made his home for almost two decades.”
Stoops has been linked as a possible candidate to the vacancy at Florida, which is where Stoops spent time as a defensive coordinator before the Sooners hired him away. But considering how close Stoops and Stroud are to each other, maybe don’t hold your breath for “Stoops to Florida” news to break anytime soon.
