Debating Iowa’s bowl destination; C.J. Beathard leaves 49ers game with injury

Iowa football is always the main topic in Iowa Breakfast Club, Land of 10’s daily Hawkeyes notebook — but we cover news, notes and analysis across Hawkeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Iowa football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Sizing up bowl destination

Tom Kakert, of Rivals, goes over the options for Iowa and what bowl game it will head to. Kakert doesn’t make a selection, but makes as good of an argument for why the Dec. 27 Pinstripe Bowl in New York is a legitimate option.

Iowa’s bowl preference

The Hawkeyes have a preferred bowl destination. No, it’s not the Pinstripe Bowl, even for New Jersey native Akrum Wadley. They want to head somewhere where snow on game day isn’t an option, and one particular bowl game in Tennessee stands out for the fan base, Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports.

A Sunday to forget …

This wasn’t the best day for former Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard, even though he graded out alright by Pro Football Focus. He was hit repeatedly by Seattle Seahawks defenders and was eventually knocked out of the San Francisco 49ers 24-13 loss on Sunday, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

… that gets worse

The team didn’t provide an update on Beathard’s injury. Several 49ers provided their opinion on fans cheering while Beathard was down, according to David Fucillo of Niners Nation. The cheers were for the debut of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who San Francisco traded for at the trade deadline, and not about Beathard’s situation, but it’s still a bad look.

Heart and soul

Defensive tackle Nathan Bazata did more than block a field goal against Nebraska. He embodied everything the Hawkeyes needed to show to win their rivalry game on Black Friday.

Processing 2017

The Hawkeyes ended the regular season 7-5. The highs were as high as anyone’s in the country. The lows were about as low as possible. How does one make sense of this? David Schwartz, of, tries putting some logic to this season.
